Topic and content of the lecture

At the HR Experience conference in Belgrade, Dalibor Šumiga delivered his first-ever lecture to HR professionals in Serbia, addressing one of today’s most relevant labor market topics — productivity. In the lecture titled “Who’s Yawning Over There?”, he debunked some of the most widespread myths related to employee (un)motivation and (un)productivity.

Drawing on behavioral science and evolutionary psychology, Dalibor demonstrated how context and environment shape our work performance and why certain “common-sense” recommendations in the HR world lack a scientific foundation.

With a wealth of examples from research and everyday business practice, the lecture revealed behavioral patterns that often underlie declining employee engagement, along with advice on how to address them by understanding human nature rather than relying on clichés.

Dilated Pupils

Small changes can yield big results, and the power of nonverbal communication should not be underestimated. We confirmed this by applying the dilated pupils effect in a digital campaign and research for a client in the field of aesthetic medicine. The ad with dilated pupils had a 300% higher CTR (Click-Through Rate) and a 100% increase in service inquiries.

And we are not one of those who will allow Olfen gel to be “drowned” in the sea of pharmaceutical industry advertisements. We used the effect of cognitive distinction, showing in color only the person using Olfen gel, to clearly highlight its effectiveness in providing pain relief.

How best to illustrate the discomfort and pain caused by a sore throat? The correct answer is the “Today’s Menu” campaign where we use the principle of mental interaction to allow users to simulate the feeling of a sore throat and associate it with the effectiveness of Isla lozenges.

To be like it used to be… 

“Rosy Retrospection” served us well in this campaign to highlight Olfen gel through a touch of nostalgia and connect it with the positive feelings that, ultimately, this product creates with its action and main benefit.

Hardness is key

For the Knauf Diamant board, renowned for its exceptional strength and high-quality insulation, we have developed a campaign that showcases the product’s key benefits through comparative examples. Each ad highlights a specific benefit of the board, such as fire protection, noise reduction, moisture resistance, mechanical damage resistance, and burglary protection, and the slogan “hardness is key” unites them all.

Stay Home

March and April 2020. It was time for crisis communication. With minimalistic visuals and a direct, unambiguous message, the Lino teddy bear made its contribution to adapting to the new normal and served as a role model in methods of virus protection.

If only Lino were here…

  “Things were better in my day”… This is a common cognitive bias of attributing more positive associations to the past than to the present, known in psychology as rosy retrospection. We exploited this phenomenon in creating a campaign for Lino’s 40th anniversary. We asked Lino enthusiasts to send us their favorite childhood photos, and then through design intervention, we added Lino to those long-ago, wonderful times.
